Other BMW have this issue and not just E60. My 2nd E39 had dry rotted seal but it took almost 8yrs for it to happen around 95k. My 08 E60 had zero issues with seal and i had almost 70K. I think garaging the car prevents a lot of the problem with the seal degrading over time.

PVUM5. 154 posts · Joined 2010. #3 · Apr 9, 2011 (Edited) I ahve a similar issue except my date and time reset is accompanied by a "high battery drain" check control message. Dealer checked the battery and alternator on first occurance and stated that they were fine.

With the engine running open the hood. turn the engine off and remove the key. Listen for a click after the engine is off. This is the post run test for the throttle actuator. If it does not cycle fully, or in the expected time the DME should set a fault code. This is an easy way to verify that the actuator is at least cycling when a command is 7 people found this helpful. You are correct that the 06 M5 did have some more issues then the 07 on up. Of course with any car maker the first year of production normally shows the most problems.
